Stained mold grown gourds, I.V. pole, medical trays, gelatin capsules, mixed media. Dimensions variable (Three pieces – 2@39x23x19” 1@70x23x23”)

A response to the institutionalization of farming (agribusiness) this piece was made with medical equipment and gourds that were constrained in molds during the process of growing. Gelatin capsules were filled with colored sand to mimic the odd color of commercial fertilizer.

This piece was made by constraining gourds in molds while they were growing. After harvesting and drying the gourds, they were augmented with beeswax, affixed to bramble sticks and arranged as a tableaux on a table.

The piece serves as a consideration of how we grow and nurture our food and our children.

Set of five pairs - each piece 6x8x1”

Latex casts of paper wasp nests were separated and fused together. These forms were then photographed, and their reverse image fused on copper plates. The resulting positive and negative images were mounted and hung in pairs.

A consideration of what we can learn by close observation of natural forms.

This piece was made by constraining gourds in molds while they were growing. After harvesting and drying the gourds, they were assembled, and wrapped with strips of copper. The copper was etched with a barcode and alternating letters representing the four bases found in DNA.
